Macron, Scholz, and Tusk Advocate Unity Amidst Ukraine Crisis: Insights from European Leadership Talks

Tusk Advocate

Tusk Advocate donald Tusk has landed in Berlin with a message: It’s high time to get serious about helping Ukraine.
The Polish prime minister is today sitting down with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron for a ‘Weimar Triangle’ format meeting, held in the German capital with a specific focus on how Europe can help Ukraine repel Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion.
True solidarity with Ukraine? Less words, more ammunition,” Tusk  said on social media in the morning of the summit.
For months, Paris and Berlin been warring over their Ukraine strategies, all while Western indecision and conservative American reluctance to keep money flowing has left Kyiv’s forces bearing the brunt on the battlefield.
Macron’s rhetoric has become increasingly hawkish throughout the war, doubling down on his comments on the potential use of Western ground troops on the eastern front. He has also stated that Europe cannot continue acting like “a bloc of cowards” against the Russian invasion.
Paris, however, accuses Germany of saying the right things while spending less than its allies to help Kyiv. To support its allegations, France has compared the assistance of different countries on the first month of Russia’s invasion pointing out that Berne spend $230 million while the pledged sum of Scholz was only €100 million .
Last month, both France and Germnay signed security agreements with Ukriane. Both countries promised to help Ukraine fight against the Russian invasion “for as long as it takes” and assist Kyiv in building modern defense.
In an  agreement posted on its website, France notes that it had “provided Ukraine with military aid worth a total of €1.7 billion in 2022 and €2.1 billion in 2023” and will send “up to €3 billion in additional support” in 2024. Scholz stated that Germany had spent €28 billion since the beginning of the war.
A “Weimar Triangle” meeting is supposed to become a “partial alliance” rare test of unity, high-level German and French officials  confessed to POLITICO.
Now it is necessary to see if Tusk is able to play the role of mediator between the fighting French and German leaders.
