Mandisa was a talented Christian singer, who won the Grammy award and began her career on “American Idol” TV show. On Thursday, she was found dead in her Nashville home. This morning, her representative confirmed the news to the local outlet The Tennessean . “We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased.” “At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time” her representative added . Dat”s Rising Star named K-Love network also honored her.

The singer was born Hundley and she auditioned for Season 5 of “American Idol” in 2005. Mandisa was one of the favorites of the show when it aired a year later and made it to the top nine before getting eliminated. Famous both for her voice and for being a plus size, she sang several songs while running for the trophy, including “I’m Every Woman,” “I Don’t Hurt Anymore,” “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” “Any Man of Mine,” “Shackles ” .

Mandisa released her first album after the “American Idol” breakthrough, “True Beauty,” in 2007. It ranked top in Billboard’s Christian album chart which was her best rank and also was at No. 43 on the Billboard 200. The album’s first single “Only the World” also debuted at No. 2 on the hot singles chart and peaked at No. 1 on the second week. The other albums she released are “It’s Christmas” in 2008, “Freedom” in 2009, “What if We Were Real” in 2011, “Overcomer” in 2013, “Out of the Dark” in 2017 and in 2020 she released the “Out of the Dark: The Story of the Rus” . She earned the Grammy nomination for best pop/contemporary gospel album with the first album and the latter “What if We Were Real” in the category of contemporary Christian music album. Her win came on the album “Overcomer” in 2014 on the category of computational Christian music album.
“Overcomer” won a trophy for contemporary Christian album, plus an additional nom for gospel/contemporary Christian performance for the title track.
Mandisa was one of just five “American Idol” alumnus to win a Grammy. They are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Tori Kelly.
