Trump says Prince Harry might be ‘booted’ out of US for stating he had not consumed drugs on his visa application
Prince Harry could be deported from the U.S. if he lied about taking drugs on his visa application just before moving to California. And, here is what former U.S. President Donald Trump had to say.
In a  preview of the interview with GB news that is scheduled to air on Tuesday, Trump weighed into the visa drama affecting Prince Harry and Meghan, saying the royal, who lives in California, should not get special treatment.
‘‘We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action,’’ Trump stated.
“Which might mean … not staying in America?” interviewer Nigel Farage asked, to which a seemingly coy Trump answered: “Oh I don’t know. You’ll have to tell me. You just have to tell me.”
Prince Harry’s visa status has been the subject of a protracted legal row after an American conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation, sued the Department of Homeland Security for access to his immigration records.
Applicants for certain types of American visas are required to disclose if they have ever used drugs and, if they admit to it, can have their application denied. Other prominent public figures have run into difficulties entering the US due to their previous admissions of drug use.
Although in his memoir, Spare, Harry has confessed that he used some drugs and psychedelics such as cocaine, marijuana, and magic mushrooms, it is unclear who included this knowledge in his visa. In both the U.S. and U.K., right-wing commentators have attacked Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, following their controversial departure from the royal family and relocation to the U.S. Trump has been a keen critic of the couple, even as he dominates the Republican Party presidential primary in the run-up to the November election. He once stated, “I’m not a fan of Meghan, I’m not a fan, and I wasn’t right from the beginning. I think poor Harry is being led around by his nose.”
A federal judge ruled earlier this month that the DHS must hand over Harry’s visa documents so the judge can check what they contain and decide if they should be disclosed. On Sunday, attorneys for the department asked for more time to locate the reports.
